Profile

  • HIROKAWA Terufumi

In his room at the group home where HIROKAWA lives, a large number of cardboard boxes are piled high. They are called "boxes," and they are packed inside and out, wrapped with several layers of packaging tape. The boxes are made behind a locked door in the artist’s room, so it is not clear what is in them.
The "boxes" are made at a rate of about one per day, and the number continues to grow daily. When the staff tried to persuade HIROKAWA to reduce the number of boxes because they were putting too much pressure on his life, he told them that they were "more important than my life". Since then, the staff has been searching for a way to coexist while respecting HIROKAWA's wishes.
